School of Prayer
Whether you feel like a beginner in prayer…
Or you want to deepen a particular prayer practice…
If you'd like to explore new ways of praying…
Or are seeking the support of a spiritual community…
The School of Prayer offers something for you.
The School of Prayer consists of multiple-week sessions. Each week throughout the session is designed to offer introductions to various ways of praying that draw from the rich treasures of the Christian contemplative tradition. Many modern-day seekers find that these ancient practices are doorways into God and vital spiritual resources for the times we live in. The School of Prayer also offers the unique opportunity to experience spiritual community with other participants.
The individual meetings will include a brief teaching about a prayer form, experiential time for opening to God through that particular way of praying, and opportunities for shared reflection with other participants. Each meeting builds on the previous week, so participants should plan to attend all the weeks of any session.

Patience Robbins has been on the Adjunct Staff of Shalem Institute for 15 years, a spiritual director for 25 years and has led workshops and retreats for many years. This is one of her favorite topics and an ever-present calling for her.
Schedule: Thursdays, February 16 & 23; March 1, 8, 22 & 29, 2012
This six-week group is open to all seekers—of any tradition, color, age or ethnic background—who are exploring the connection between their prayerful relationship with God and their action in the world and who want to integrate these two aspects more fully.
We will engage the question, "What is mine to do?", in a praying community as we address the following themes: envisioning the kin-dom; pondering how creation supports and nurtures us; remembering mentors on the journey; and noticing impediments to living from our soul.
Participants will be asked to take on a particular outreach to people on the edge of our society and bring the reflection on their experience to this class.
Each session will include time in prayer, content to ponder, reflective practice, opportunity for sharing and homework to assist ongoing integration.
