Contemplative Leadership Day

Contemplative Leadership: Flowing Together

Saturday, January 30, 2010, 10am-4pm

Make me wide-eyed for beauty
and for my neighbor's need and goodness;
wide-willed for peace-making;
and for confronting power
with the call to compassion

— Ted Loder

Prophetic voices today suggest that this is a turning point in human consciousness, that we are living on a hinge of history and the great work is one of sacred activism, which calls for new spirit-led leadership. What practices support this leadership? What encourages transformative choices for steady attentiveness to the True Leader, the Spirit? What is the role of spiritual community in fortifying courage for this alternative leadership?

This day will be an opportunity to explore contemplative leadership with other Shalem program graduates in two sessions:

Morning: "Defining Contemplative Leadership"
Afternoon: "The Countercultural Power Shift"

During the morning, we will have some prayerful reflection and sharing about our understanding and experiences of contemplative leadership. In the afternoon, we will have input on shifting from controlling power to relational power. This will be followed by silence, reflection and sharing. We will focus on naming and re-imagining the areas of our lives that are calling for deepening this radical engagement with the Spirit in leadership.
