Valuing and Nurturing a Mind-in-Heart-Way

by Tilden Edwards

Originally intended a a chapter in his recently published book, Embracing the Call to Spiritual Depth: Gifts for Contemplative Living, this small but powerful booklet highlights the importance and potential impact of a contemplatively-oriented seminary experience. Such a seminary experience – grounding every aspect of seminary life in “a direct, receptive presence to God’s living Presence – would ultimately change how our spiritual leaders lead and could impact our expectations and understanding of spiritual leadership. Much of what is written here also will be valuable outside the seminary – particularly within universities, church communities and other spiritual communities. For what Tilden calls forth in these pages is a very intentional way of being in the present moment, an infusing of a “mind-in-heart” openness in all that we do, including in the way we teach and learn.
