Cancellations and Refund Policy

We recognize that life sometimes intervenes into the plans we make. And it is possible that something comes up that feels so overwhelming that it seems that there is no time, space or energy for the Shalem program for which you have registered.

As you hold your needs and decisions prayerfully, please consider how the support of a contemplative praying community might be a help to you at this time—might the program experience that called to you be exactly what is needed?

And if you still feel called to withdraw from the program, please refer to the refund policies below to know what refund you may expect. While it is sometimes possible to make exceptions to the policies outlined below, generally we will ask you to accept these policies as a way of honoring both your original call to the program and the work of Shalem thus far to offer the program that called to you.

Online Programs:

Unfortunately, we are not able to offer refunds for online registrations. Once an online registration is complete and submitted, you will receive your live link to the online course. Because this live link cannot be reversed, our policy is to not issue a refund for the course. It is possible to gift this registration to another individual. We hope you understand.

Introductory Events, Quiet Days, Groups & Special Events:

If you need to cancel your registration for any of these programs and wish to receive a partial refund (up to half of the program fee), you must contact Shalem at least one week before the beginning of the program. In the event of such a cancellation, half of the program fee is your non-transferable, non-refundable deposit. Full refunds are given only if Shalem cancels the event.

Overnight Retreats and Regional Gatherings:

If you need to cancel your registration for a residential retreat or regional gathering and wish to receive a partial refund, you must contact Shalem at least two weeks before the beginning of the program, in which case Shalem will refund the program tuition less the $75 non-refundable, non-transferable deposit. No tuition refunds can be made for cancellations within two weeks of the program start date. Refunds for room and board costs will be made consistent with the cancellation policy of the residential facility for the event.

Long-Term Programs:

For Shalem’s long-term programs—Nurturing the Call: Spiritual Guidance, Transforming Community: Leading Contemplative Prayer Groups & Retreats, Going Deeper: Clergy Spiritual Life; Crossing the Threshold: Contemplative Foundations for Emerging Leaders; Heart Longings: An Invitation to the Contemplative Path; and The Soul of Leadership—if you need to withdraw from the program prior to completion, you are responsible for payment of all tuition, fees and residency costs which are scheduled to be paid prior to the date Shalem receives your request for withdrawal.

Each Shalem pilgrimage has specific cancellation dates and policies. You can find these on the web pages for each pilgrimage and on the application forms for each pilgrimage.

Non-Sufficient Funds (NSF) Payments:

Check or electronic check payments returned for non-sufficient funds, stop payment requests or a closed account will result in a $30.00 returned check fee.

Our mission is to nurture contemplative living and leadership.

In 2025, Shalem will be a dynamic and inclusive community, empowered by the Spirit, where seekers engage in transformation of themselves, their communities, and the world through spiritual growth, deep connection, and courageous action.
